17/1/19 16:02 (UTC)I choose Angeal!

17/1/19 16:24 (UTC)Now, FFVII was one of those series that I almost wasn't going to get because I wasn't that into FFVII (I know, blasphemy). It was because I was sick of the CloTi and CloRith fights, I didn't really like Cloud, and the two characters I really did like were either 1.) relegated to "If you blink, you may miss this character coming into your party" or "MISOGYNIST ALERT". And I heard people go "blah blah blah Zack" and was like "BUT HOW CAN YOU LIKE ZACK WHEN YOU ONLY SEE HIM IN FLASHBACKS MAYBE A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES"
Then I bought Crisis Core, and if anything could of made me a believer, it was that game. I fell in love with Zack, I fell in love with Sephiroth (I ate my words about what a 2 dimensional villian he was, goddamn my standards were set by Kefka who like fell from the personality sky like a rainshower of skittles). And yes Angeal-- Angeal Angeal-- do I pair him with Zack? Absolutely-- and those lyrics are heartbreakingly about him and Zack (never fear, I also ship Zack/Aerith-- because I am a shipper and they make ABOUT AS MUCH SENSE TO ME AS ZACK/ANGEAL)
Bonus Zack/Angeal song Sonata Artica - Wind Beneath My Wings
If only my faith in other games/series could be restored in a single fell swoop, thank you Square!

17/1/19 17:33 (UTC)And now. I don't like FFVII (I know, blasphemy. HAHAHA). I really never enjoyed it. Also, as a note: did you know it was translated to Spanish but ALL WRONG AND WONKY? Yes, that's right. We got a lame translation. Thanks Square! If I ever play it again, it will be in english.
So I really didn't like FFVII, I disliked Cloud, I hated Sephiroth, I disliked Tifa, I fucking despise Aerith AHAHAHAHA I'M SO SO SO SORRY. I only liked Cid and Cait Sith lol. I hated the story, everything was so MEH for me compared to FFVI and FFVIII.
But then I got Crisis Core. I fell in love with Zack, I honestly really love that man. And well Sephiroth... I came to terms with him a bit but that's it. I also really liked Angeal! Even though I never got to that deep love you have for him.
To end this comment I'll admit I cried big tears when I finished the game. Poor Zack. I love you, sexy pile of pixels. I need a Zack icon xD

17/1/19 17:42 (UTC)It wasn't that I hated any of the characters, but when I feel ambivalent to them, that is the problem. If someone can make me hate a character, they've done their job. If I feel neither love nor hate toward any of them, that's when it gets into "Well, I really wasn't that into them I guess" and therein for me lies the sin of the matter. It's true though that before I hate a character, I will probably intensely love them. the characters I hate though, I don't publicize it, but oh goodness-- they exist.
I think that for me with Sephiroth, it was like "Well-- so your evil, why?" and all we got was a fucking scene of him reading in a library. In Crisis Core, they explain that so I am like "Okay, so you couldn't of sort of elaborated that in the first game?" and I feel like when the FFVII remake comes around, (hopefully in the next twenty years-- and sometime before I die) I will have more of an appreciation for it then I did the first time around because I know exactly what they had intended to happen before the events of FFVII.
Agreed though, Zack is fucking amazing. I also need an icon; I have a few icons of him that I've made but I need a new one. Just haven't hit on the picture yet that goes "ICON ME BABY!"

17/1/19 23:01 (UTC)In all seriousness, I prefer Lost Odyssey over FFVII, FFXIII or FFXV any day. I think it's about time they get into making another whole new videogame or series. I love Final Fantasy, I just don't happen to really like the direction it took after FFXII (which I think is the last great Final Fantasy, if we don't count Lost Odyssey, which was going to be a Final Fantasy but thanks to whatever god there is, it wasn't. I recommend you play it if you haven't!).

17/1/19 16:26 (UTC)Rena from Higurashi!
(no subject)
17/1/19 16:36 (UTC)This is actually the only song that I've used for MULTIPLE icons, all of them actually Higurashi based, it was a set of four icons that used the same song but different refrains and three of them I actually am using, the other one didn't really fit and so it's been relegated to the past. I watched the series BEFORE the song was released, so when the song came out and I heard it-- IMMEDIATELY I got the Higurashi vibe from it which mean I HAD TO ICON and get it out of my system. (that is what happens when a song gets to me before an actual icon does-- it eats at my brain with unseen images UNTIL I have to vomit them out.
And to be perfectly honest, all of the characters in the series made my heart just a little bit. Umineko was a bit 'eh' with me as there was a few characters that I really loved, but the other characters lacked luster. With Higurashi, each of the characters were a villian in different arcs, which was really pretty brilliant story telling.
Rena though was my favorite character in the series, she was so sweet but definitely a pattern card Yandere, and there was some pretty terrifying scenes with her in the series that really cemented my love for her, but I feel like that bit of lyrics fit her and her personality, "here we come now on a dark star, seeing demons-- not what we are". How can you get any closer to Higurashi than that? I mean, it's even british pop, which sort of goes along with the dissonance that the whole series create with the 'cute horror' vibe going on there.

17/1/19 16:52 (UTC)Perfect Symmetry
Icons are sort of catagorized into "Stars", "Hearts" and "Clubs"
Stars are Individuals
Hearts are Pairings
Clubs are either Friendship, Platonic, or in the Raven/Schwann instance, that's self love.
I don't even know if you are ever going to play Tales of Vesperia and so I don't really want to spoiler you on you if you every plan on playing the game-- but I have a lot to say on this matter, so hold on while I try to locate some sort of highlightable Spoiler Text--- okay, that was easier then I thought it would be...
When you meet Raven (the guy with the ponytail), he is a part of the guilds, and he is everything that I really like-- he's an old man goofball, happy go lucky and positively chill, I mean I love this character type. There's just nothing that is going to bring him down, however as the game progresses, you find out that the Imperial Knights have a lot to answer for, and drumroll you find out that Raven is ACTUALLY Captain Schwann, leader of one of the Knight Factions-- and he is the complete opposite of Raven, he is silent and melancholic, and completely run down by the constant spying that his commanding officier is having him do on the party-- so you take Raven and you take Schwann and you put them together and you get two halves of one whole, a perfect symmetry if you will. But that also hits on another one of my favorite tropes that the Tales series has, the Betrayer that is redeemed toward the end.
It's also fun replaying the definitive edition with all the knowledge of playing the game from a long time ago-- a lot of things are giving me 'a-ha!" moments.

17/1/19 17:01 (UTC)You have good taste in characters btw!
Also, let's play is amazing-- I am doing that through a few of the Fire Emblem games; because I like the characters and stories, but I'm not a big fan of the battle system >.>

17/1/19 17:25 (UTC)thanks! i guess i have a type (or several, just like most people). ;)
i mean, i'm also just very uncoordinated with most video games, and there are series i've tried where i just can't hack the controls or difficulty (assassin's creed is unplayably bad as a pc port, and the soulsborne series is of course just very hard). i don't really want to spend what precious free time i have getting frustrated at things, so let's play watching it is for those things. :)
(no subject)
17/1/19 17:34 (UTC)Though occasionally, a character will come through that blows through the type and I am like "WTF matey, what are you even doing there". But Raven/Schwann-- it's like the series creators were like "Hey, what does Nia like? She likes loveable goofballs AND she likes tragic tortured souls! ALRIGHT LET US DO THIS! CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!"
For me, Let's Plays are a matter of TIME (which I have none of, with the exception of today-- with being sick, I have too much of). I have no time for most anything, so I have to pick my poisons very carefully!
(no subject)
17/1/19 18:10 (UTC)when someone who isn't my type goes and sets up camp in the old brainmeats, these days i just shrug and go 'welp, looks like i have a new type to add to the collection', so there's that ;)
for me, raven satisfies the whole 'complex character with tragic backstory hidden behind obvious facade' twice over, and then he gets a redemption arc. also, i just relate to the whole fatalistic bitter old jerk thing, since that's pretty much what i'm like some days.
oh yeah, time is definitely a factor! i'm super guilty of blowing through video series on 1,75x speed when i can, 'cos there usually aren't enough hours in the day!
(no subject)
17/1/19 18:14 (UTC)I have pretty much aged past ALL my favorite characters. Like 10 years ago, I was younger than Raven-- now on this current replaythrough, older. This also happened 11 years ago with Xenogears and Citan Uzuki.
I am still trying to determine how this makes me feel.

That icon is amazing and I have coveted it for ages.

17/1/19 17:00 (UTC)Oh how I love Sara, I swear-- she was perhaps one of my favorite parts of Trails in Cold Steel series. She is a badass, she makes you fight your own teammates and she always shows up in the nick of time to lay the smackdown. Not to mention most of all of the Trails of Cold Steel art is EXTREMELY iconable, perfect-- lots of blank space to put my own spin on it and just rock it out.
Sometimes I feel like a traitor, because I prefer the Trails and Tales series then I do the FF series. I mean granted, some of my most favorite characters are from Final Fantasy series BUT as far as the seamlessness of story as well as the sheer character interactions, the Trails and Tales series' really have it beat--
Now Sara, back to Sara.. I wanted something bright and dancey with her, the perfect feminist manifesto-- because yes, Sara is a strong woman who doesn't need permission-- and really I just want to be Sara, complete with drunken exploits (but the beauty about her is that the game wants to mislead you into thinking that she only is thinking about her next drink-- and then you get divine enlightenment when she does something completely random, like pretending to be asleep so she can listen to all her students conversations on the train.) Good going Sara! We love you!

17/1/19 18:11 (UTC)Before my Skeletor themed journal, it was Laguna Loire inspired however with Photobucket crapping out, someone was like "Hey Nia, your Friends Open banner is fritzing out" and I was like "Well that's a shame..." and then I started to think of which character I want to have represent me on DW. There is a lot of thought that goes into it-- mainly, how many 'traits' the character shares with me (all my favorite characters, I do identify with-- usually a trait here or there) but until this time, Laguna is the one who is the closest to me in personality-- rambling, enthusiastic, bad with crushes, will save the world through sheer blind luck.
So a'la Winnie the Pooh, think--think--think
When it finally hit, I was on the way to doing something; I don't precisely know except I was in the car and THIS song came on. Previously I've heard what a toxic song it was because it's like basically saying "You are beautiful because I say you are beautiful."-- good job Patriarchy. (most self esteem issues cannot be solved by someone else saying they are beautiful-- and certainly not about someone else saying it is so-- believe me, I dated someone who I could tell her over and over how beautiful she was, and she never believed me)
But I was listening to this song, and preparing to sort of gag-- except I didn't, because in my mind Skeletor started dancing to this song, and the boys of One Direction was essentially singing this to a smiling, happy, coy Skeletor with fluttery eyelashes, strewing flower petals everywhere.
There goes the fucking neighborhood.
And therein I was like "My next journal theme will be Skeletor"-- of course around that time I was also reading "Positive Afirmation Skeletor" memes on Pinterest, that probably didn't help the situation either.

17/1/19 18:47 (UTC)The above song CAN make me cry-- I cried when I first heard it, I also cried when I heard Lily Allen's version. Like totes bawling, just throwing it out there.
This song was also the song that I walked down the aisle to so you can say that it is almost my quintessential pairing song, so if I use it to reference a pairing-- that means the pairing is pretty important to me. And that being said, I did not really start out 'liking' Sorey/Mikleo, like everyone was saying "Sorey/Mikleo" for life and I was like 'eh' because visually it didn't appeal to me, I've seen those types of pairings before.
But as I played the game and saw their interactions, and how they were just best friends, best nerds and probably more-- and the end, oh the end-- it made me cry in the same way that this song makes me cry, dammit. So like I couldn't help it, the icon was made, because even though Sorey and Mikleo had grand adventures with the party, I can see them curling underneath a big tree and letting time just pass them bye while they stared down at the ruins that they so meticulously explored.

17/1/19 21:09 (UTC)I have this ability of being able to look at a series and absolutely KNOW who I will love-- be it Video game, anime, TV show. It's the aesthetics that get me, I think. I look at the character and the style just resonates with me. Of course this ability HAS failed (I am looking at you, Asbel-- that little jerk took me completely by surprise, same with, and Rosa from FFIV who sort of grew on me after like 15 or so years)
But Magilou, I looked at her and I instantly knew that I would adore her, despite the fact that she was already sort of hyped up to be the comedic relief-- but I perserved, I knew that there was something deeper there, that she had a facet to herself, a reservoir of something. Then we got hit with all of her abandonment issues and I knew exactly why I loved her, it was because she was probably me from like 20 years ago, abandonment issues and all. I guess I can understand when someone does not like a character, I mean there are certain people I am not fond of and it is usually because they hit all the 'annoying tabs' with me. But Magilou, her story nearly broke my heart
The song sort of ties in with how I view her, "When the rain washes you clean, you'll know"-- because Magilou's story is about her trying to be emotionless, but she has this moment at the very end where she looks down at a flower-- everything registers, and then she has a choice to step on it or not, and she walks around it. And you know that was the moment where she had let everything go, that was her grand moment where she was reborn-- it was her path to becoming THE Mayvin.
I just wish everyone loved Magilou as much as I do. But hey, I have infinity love in my heart for fictional characters-- so... (You should see me cry at movies)
(no subject)
18/1/19 14:38 (UTC)You know, I will totally admit I thought Magilou was a bit much sometimes as the constant "ha ha, look how wacky this character is" portrayal did bother me sometimes. But you're totally right in that it eventually becomes apparent she's a lot more than "the quirky one" of the party and is truly dealing with some heartbreak in her background. I was happy to see her grow as a character and her relationships with the rest of the party.
You should see me cry at movies
You're in good company then, I am a big weepy baby at anything remotely sad. All the cinematic tricks to frame a sad scene work on me: put the sad music in with the sad scene and I'll howl (or even howl because a scene is just nice and heartwarming)!

19/1/19 00:10 (UTC)Noctis is an excellent character, but he didn't appeal to me right off the bat. Initially drawn to Gladious and Ignis-- Noctis was just the sullen princeling that they had to watch over, but as I played the game over and over, I had to think to myself exactly 'what sort of life he lived' which opened the door to all sorts of questions about Noctis. Of he is going to be sullen, he's a teenager and suddenly this heavy load has been thrust on him when all he wants to do is sort of live a normal life.
And then when he goes to sleep and then wakes back up, it was like "Y HALO THAR~" Noctis didn't appeal visually to me however once he got facial hair, oh and then the ovaries started to burst like the fireworks at disneyland. When I was in the car and I heard this song come on the radio-- I had always loved the original, but instantly I go into icon mode, like if I were to make an icon, who would I pin this song on.. and almost unanimously, it was Noctis (it would of been Chrom if I hadn't pinned him to a cheesy Peter Cetera song #sorrynotsorry)
Of course "It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you-- there's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do", I instantly thought of Lunafreya/Noctis, but it could also apply to his squad as well, because when Noctis has a plan, he has a plan.
And yes, do some iconning! I would love to see what you come up with! Also #sorrynotsorry for trying to be a filthy enabler!
(no subject)
19/1/19 08:42 (UTC)I also thought Noctis was going to be sullen, like a less interesting Squall. But he really isn't, I mean mostly. He has his moments, but he's also just a huge dork and I love him.
Older Noctis is so hot, I wasn't expecting it at all. A very pleasant surprise, really.
I don't think I can remember how to do fancy icons anymore! Putting hats on Noctis was pushing the upper limits of my skill. (Enable away~)
(no subject)
19/1/19 13:27 (UTC)Noctis wouldn't of pegged himself to be a favorite character, but during the course of his journey, he definitely -grew- on me. (and he has nothing on Squall, that character is definitely the 76th in a congeniality contest)-- And I think that the thing that they do in the game really well, is bring Noctis out through OTHER characters, like every conversation he has with his squad makes him grow by leaps and bounds-- one of Square's more ingenious masterful examples of storytelling.

19/1/19 00:16 (UTC)This is where we come once again into the Keane territory. I love love love Keane, definitely in my top three bands ever since hearing "Crystal Ball" on Pandora Radio back in 2004.
Now with Edgeworth, this broaches into exactly how I view him. He has had a pretty shitty homelife when he was younger and I have noticed that in some people it can translate into several things--- it can make people go two routes, altruistic or selfish, and by selfish it's only really a self defense mechanism. Edgeworth has A LOT of self defenses built up, you can tell this whenever he deals with Phoenix. He isn't heartless, he has this clear adherance to what is 'proper' and 'right'. This song also if you listen to other parts in it, you can see that song is about how someone views another person, a person that he is perhaps envious of.
I religiously played all the Phoenix Wright games because I loved Edgeworth so much!
