I played it long enough ago that I don't remember everything, but to me the normal betrayal aspect was subverted because of the way the characters are, so that might be why it's not so clear. Buuuut the game was super long and I've played a ton of other JRPGs since I beat it last year, so I honestly couldn't say at this point without fear of mixing storylines up or something crazy.

Hurrah indeed, though! A lot of people were worried this one wouldn't make it over, considering the sequel's already on the way in Japan.
