I have seen a few people post a masterlist about their pairings but I am going to leave the floor open and give me a series and I will tell you the pairings I like and why I like them.
Well I have actually two OTPs for the series-- and the first one actually is about your icon-- Emil/Marta.
I was drawn to it because in a way I saw Emil as a very withdrawn person-- very emotionally stunted and pretty much unable to figure out who or what he was... then there is Marta who sort of gives him that reason-- who helps him to find himself, and she does it in a way that is totally Marta-- balls to the wall and unrepentant. So is it any wonder that he was drawn to her, because she gave him a sort of freedom. Seriously, their last talk on the bridge was one of the most heartwarming parts in the game-- just because it gave you real insight into who they were and what they had become together in the course of the journey together.
Sad thing is, Dawn of the New World is one of those games that few people give a fighting chance which is a shame because it's such a beautiful game beyond itself. I mean, I won't compare it to the first game, but I thought that it did well enough on it's own and I wish people wouldn't compare it to the previous game.
Second pairing is a not so canon one-- Regal and Zelos-- I don't know why I like that pairing so much, I think it was fic that did it for me-- not to mention it was the dynamic of them-- the serious older criminal and the impetuous chosen/traitor. Granted I do like Zelos and Sheena as well, but it's a guilty pleasure.
Of course where would I be without a healthy bit of girl girl, I am definitely an equal opportunity shipper-- and thus I really do like Sheena/Raine as well-- but the characters are such great characters that you could pair all of them up with any of the others and it wouldn't be amiss (Except Emil and Marta, I am sorry-- they are pretty much my OTP and it's almost impossible for me to pair them up with anyone else... though I can do so with Lloyd and Colette, pairing them with each other, or others)
Of course, for the baddies-- Decus/Alice, because let's face it-- those two were pretty kickass in their own right (I enjoyed them as antagonists)
I also have this crack ship of Richter from Symphonia and Duke from Vesperia-- and how they could definitely rule the world if they wanted to-- Richter takes care of all of the main aspects of villanry while Duke just cultivates a huge menagerie of magical creatures (Yes, Duke is my favorite antagonist ever from the Tales series)
I think that it probably is-- since Final Fantasy Land is so damn expansive.
However I can tell you there are two pairings I really do like in FFXII.
Larsa/Penelo-- I think that is one of those pairings that a lot of people don't see too often because they so often want to pair Van up with Penelo, but every time I see the two of them bonding in the cutscenes, I know that they are a great pair. Penelo with her commoner roots, and Larsa of royalty, I can see the both of them learning from any alliance. Not to mention older woman, come on-- Larsa strikes me as someone who's serious nature would probably be attracted to the sunshine that Penelo brings.
Then there is Basch/Balthier== yeah, yeah-- I know that Fran/Balthier is canon but I don't follow canon too closely when it suits me. And well okay, so I also admit it was some nice fanart (I used to have some great Basch/Baltheir icons that got lost in the sands of LJ time). But the two of them also mess in their own way with their opposite personalities-- and Balthier's ties to the empire which I am sure that Basch can commiserate with. (And Basch, he is one of my favorite FF characters, I mean look at it.. HIS POT HOLDER. I mean, his fashion choices were pretty fricking epic-- how can I not like someone who wears a pot holder strapped to his chest like armor?
Well the first ship is Viktor/Flik and this was before I actually KNEW what slash fiction was. (I was a late bloomer on the internet front and played Suikoden a year before I had a reliable access to the internet) To me, it always seemed as if they were meant for each other (despite what happened with Odessa, god bless her and most Silverberg souls, oh gosh, I love the Silverbergs, best tactician family ever)-- and when it was mentioned at the end of the game that they ran off together after the assault on the Emperor's castle. The second game made it even better with the advent of Viktor and Flik as Mercenaries (and Viktor's drawings-- "IT's a bear! 'no it's a lion"-- I used to have an icon of a chibi Viktor with his drawing... I also have a neat Flik icon that I may have to dig up just so that you can see it-- it has a matching Viktor icon as well)
Second favorite ship is Gremio/Tir-- yeah, it may seem wierd and Gremio is older then Tir-- but it's one of those pairings that I think works well in that I remember Tir in the first game really wanting Gremio back and then if you had collected all 108 stars, Leknaat comes and says "HEY, GUESS WHAT YOU GAIZ" and poof, Gremio. One of those moments that made me cry. (because let me tell you-- when I played through the game the first time, I wanted to kill the stupid headed Milch for the fact that Milch's castle trapped Gremio-- and if it hadn't been for the fact that I discovered the secret to reviving Gremio-- I would of never had recruited him to the party. :( (Yes, Gremio is my favorite character from the game, tied with Viktor-- used to RP the both of them back in the day when I still RPed)
The third pairing that I really really like is Tengaar/Hix-- Tengaar goes down as being one of my favorite females in the Suikoden franchise and I think that Hix acts as a perfect foil aka levening agent for her being that she is impetuous and all full of feminist rage toward the system, really when Neclord kidnapped her, he really had his work cut out for him. Really most of the females in Suikoden were awesome, nothing delicate or shy about them-- even the ones who escape the radar (Apple), comes back with a fricking vengenance, laying waste to all conceptions of delicate female mindsets in their wake.
And now for the icons
Both up for use if you want-- and no credit needed!
Granted I do like Utena/Anthy and I do like Touga/Utena as well as Touga/Saionji but there is only one pairing in Utena that I really really like and would probably read fic for.
That is Juri/Miki.
Because I feel so very sorry for the both of them. Miki has a psychotic sister and Juri has a psychotic ex-girlfriend. Juri also has a man chasing her that is chasing her only because she is what he calls unattainable, and then he uses Shiori to pretty much get to Juri.
It really just makes me want to ship Juri and Miki because of their friendship and because I seriously believe that if the two of them walked right out of the rose castle together, they could probably be so content together if they only gave each other a chance-- because I see that on the student castle, it is those two that are the closest.
Damn that I don't have a Yuri on Ice! icon, but it will happens-- just need to get around to finding one/making one.
Well obviously Yuri/Viktor-- for reasons; I mean how can you not ship them? I mean I think it's impossible to watch the series and not ship them and I like how the few times that Yuri is aggressive (especially on the ice), is because of Viktor, I love that his very internal monologue is filled with Viktor while he skates-- and the transformation is amazing! Really, it's the only pairing that really occurs to me.
Me/Ser Aymeric-- because hot damn that is one tasty piece of Elezen. Though I will admit that I do like Shiva/Hralsvagyr, and yes, even a little bit of Krile/Alphinaud (because she bugs him and I think she only bugs him because she likes him.)
That game is very good but it's definitely hard for me to pull pairings out since I'm pretty much expiriencing the storyline first hand
Oh yes, I forgot Yda/Palapymo *and now I am beginning to wonder why all my FFXV pairings involve Lalafels... hmmm?*
