If there is any one type of person I hate the most, it is the people who say "Well, we can't pray for the muslims because they want to kill us all"-- which happened RIGHT ON MY FACE BOOK. BOY DID I OWN HER! I am sorry but I will say it once and I will say it again, religious texts are not applicable to modern times due to how we've grown as a civilization. Also I KNOW MANY PEOPLE who practice the islamic faith. They are peaceable individuals who wouldn't think of taking someone else's life, the whole "Take them out before they take us out" mentality is toxic and it is harmful and has no place in our society.

We are not JURORS nor are we EXECUTIONERS!

I responded that there are miles of people, claiming to be christian, who believe in things like 'gay conversion therapy", 'locking immigrant children up in cages" and 'burning black effigies in cornfields while dressed in sunday whites', but I won't judge the religion based on that, I judge it based on all of the GOOD people I see in this world doing things like loving their neighbor without judgement, there are lots of christians that I know who are kind and decent people, those are the true scions of their religion, not trashbags who want to kill/harm their children/other people because they are gay/hurt people of other religions because some sort of fucked up inner creed about their god telling them to do things.

SAME WITH ANY AND EVERY RELIGION-- YOU BRING THE HATE, YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY A PIECE OF SHIT

And I am totally not sorry for feeling/thinking that.

Of course there are people like you who see the good in people regardless of religion. Religion doesn't make people do bad things, their brain or their inability to use it does.
Like obviously I won't ask what faith someone is practicing unless it actually comes up but I'm always hesitant to admit to being a Muslim after all the horror stories. Well,I've been lucky to not have faced bigotry based on that yet,so I count myself lucky. :D

You are so strong and my prayers go out to you and everything that you face. My husband is a muslim as well, and he is VERY hesitant to admit it because of all the pushback he would get-- and I don't know anyone who is as peaceable as my husband. He observes Ramadan every year and does it without getting any sort of like pat on the back for it (well he gets one from me but I'm his biggest fangirl), he doesn't do it because he can gain any sort of recognition for it, he does it because it gives him perspective on people around the world who literally have NOTHING TO EAT and it builds compassion with him.

religion doesn't make people hateful, PEOPLE make PEOPLE hateful-- if your soul is receptive to hate, it will be filled that regardless of what religion you are.

Another reason why I dislike facebook so much. Real hate comes out of that site. It literally doesn't take any energy to not spew bs like that. Innocent people died, and the only thing that these people can conjure up in their tiny minds is "good, kill them all"??
I swear, religion is like a man mad disease.

Yeah, I try to distance myself from such rhetoric. And facebook is the main reason why this DW exists for me-- so I can exist in a happy fandom world where you don't see bullshit on the feed, you just see fanfics and icons and day to day endeavors. Facebook is pretty much the LEADING CAUSE OF ANXIETY

I can't deal with the hate. It's just too much. I'm slowly deleting most of my social media presence for that reason.

That's definitely one of the reasons I'm glad I don't have a Facebook. :/ I hate that people use religion as an excuse to spew their own hatred. :(

Those people are exactly the kind of people who made this happen. That constant rhetoric, that Muslims are our enemies, that they want to kill us, that they're incompatible with American culture, whatever, is the toxic bath that leads to people deciding to go on murder sprees. god, i can only imagine what a cesspool fb has become when it comes to things like this. i agree with you that we shouldn't judge extremists in religions because they don't represent the entire body of people who practice it.

it's amazing to me how callous some people can be after this tragedy but i'd be lying if i said i was surprised. i pray that all the injured pull through and that the ones who were taken can rest in peace.

The moment that the news was called, I knew that it was going to be a case of 'well perhaps it was because of how they (muslims) have been acting', placed in the same box as victims of rape and every other crime that is committed by a non american, but the moment that it is a caucasian/man, suddenly its "Well he must of had a traumatic childhood'.

People HAVE traumatic childhoods, I had a fairly traumatic (to me) one, but I am not going around destroying every bastion of male entitlement because of something that happened to me when I was 8. No excuse, none.

yes, you were right to think so because the media is so predictable in these cases. white people always get the benefit of the doubt after these kinds of things happen. they also get to live long enough to be sentenced and given some sob story about their childhood.

& exactly. plenty of people have traumatic childhoods and don't go on shooting rampages. the hoops the media will jump through to try to humanize these people is enraging.

fb has been a cesspool for awhile. it's one of the many reasons i had to deactivate.
