Of course I've been spamming my facebook friend's list with my endeavors on beating Tales of Graces F. So now it's time for this, I just feel like Dreamwidth justifies a bit more of a response and a little bit more thought in my thoughts on exactly what I thought of the first part of the game. (since I have to clear the Future Arc)/ I want to actually go in depth on exactly what it was that I liked about this game.)
First of all...
Favorite Character
Hard one, there are so many characters that I really really liked in this game however I would have to say that I have a fond spot in my heart for Pascal. She's eclectic, kooky and a true free spirit and you rarely see her in her uncheerful state (unless she's being forced to bathe). She was also the one character that I saw pictures for, and what with her bright colours and funky coloured hair, I just knew that she was going to be my favorite. I also really liked how she interacted with the characters, molesting Sophie, poking at everyone and then there is the flirting with Hubert.
Alternate Favorite Characters: Kurt, Asbel, Sophie, Fourier
Favorite Pairings
I am a shipper and I will never apologize for this facet of myself. I love Love, I also love romance and all those things that make my girly heart swim. However lovey-dovey type stuff only affects me in regards to other people/fictional characters. That being said, here are my PAIRINGS!
Kurt x Malik - Yeah, I know that they were technically in love with the same woman but honestly, I only see their EPIC bromance that sort of turned sour toward the very end, and in the ending credits, the way that Malik was holding Kurt's hand was just d'aww inducing.
Pascal x Hubert - In every series, I have a favorite male/male pairing, then I also have a het pairing that I really think is cute. Pascal and Hubert it is. Kooky inventor combined with slightly tsundere battle commander.. double points because she is older then him by like five years. (I think older women, younger men are cute.. that's just me.) She seems to make him react the most and I can just see that the love confession would especially be cute.
Sophie x Cheria - Like the first one, THIS IS NOT CANON (except in my head). It is also female/female. I like Cheria quite a bit but I don't like her paired up with Asbel, he's dumb and can't really stop thinking about Richard. I realize that everything is supposed to neatly take care of itself on the pairing front and everything is supposed to get it's heterosexual counterpart, however I like to shake it up a bit. (and I don't ship based on pretty, I ship based on character dynamics). I love how Cheria takes care of Sophie, and likewise Sophie tends to settle in closer to Cheria... there's a bond there, some people think it's because Cheria is a motherly type, but honestly she mothers everyone.. hell she mothers Asbel and they are MEANT to be together canon-wise.
Asbel x Richard - Not ashamed, not at all. Asbel spends the part of the game chasing after Richard and then they walk past each other in the beginning credits when BoA sings "I wish that two hearts could become one.." Don't believe me...? Then watch it for yourself. (for those not versed in the tales-verse, Richard is the blonde with long hair and Asbel is the redheaded guy.) You'll know what part it is because it is indeed the gayest gay that has ever gayed.
Redheaded Guy - Asbel
Dark Pink Haired Girl - Cheria
Purple haired girl with twintails - Sophie
White haired girl with pink ends - Pascal
Blue haired guy - Hubert
Sexy Beast.. I mean Blonde Guy with Facial Hair - Malik
Kurt is the guy from my icons and since he's a bit character, he only appears in the intro for a brief space, in order to sort of face off with Sexy Beast Malik.
General Opinion
There was a time I really really loved the Final Fantasy series, I craved the character development that I got and I think the last game that I truly truly enjoyed was FFXII, but FFXIII seems just lack luster to me and I naturally gravitated toward the Tales series, my intro game into it was Vesperia. And then I just fell in love with how much effort is put into the characters as a whole.
Granted the battle system isn't one that I am overly fond of (but it grew on me). But the character interactions more then make up for it, you learn even the most minute details of a character's personality. Like who likes popsicles, who wet their bed when they were five and who is a consistant story-teller (read: liar), and you love them all the more for it. After a certain point played through in the game, Final Fantasies lose their levity, however in Tales games, the characters have fun up until the very end.
So that being said, I am eagerly awaiting Tales of Xillia. I have it pre-ordered and everything.

1/6/13 21:30 (UTC)This I agree with. Though Cheria x Sophie isn't my pairing, I can definitely see it. (I'm more Cheria x Pascal, myself.) You make a good point that Cheria mothers everyone, which honestly was what kinda stopped me from shipping Cheria x Sophie. But I'm going to think on it more, now that I've realized, yeah, she does mother everyone, even the person she canonically ends up with.
