icons10in20 - Theme: Either half face or negative space

Now, I spent a long long time playing Tales of Vesperia this weekend and my heart is full of the feels in so many ways.
For anyone who doesn't want to click the cut-text, how are y'all? Any special projects you are working on?
Where do I even start?
A lot of this comes from when I first played this and the impressions I had versus 11 years later and the impressions I have right now. Everything means a little bit differently to me when all is said and done, and other things resonate a little bit more. Now I was suckered into the Raven/Yuri pairing by my ex girlfriend because she had played it and she was like "This right here!" and of course being the 'good' girlfriend, I allowed myself to concede to most of her opinions (with the exception of her Flynn/Sodia-- which I did not really like at all, because Sodia was just too, I guess intense for me---). But now, having played through to several key crucial points I have developed OPINIONS OF MY OWN!
1.) Raven/Schwann (not a pairing-- just, don't know how to really encapsulate it). I have grown to love Raven/Schwann even more, and also I have better understanding of how that situation played out, the fact that the game drew such a line between the two of them, that-- I don't feel I got as good of a understanding of it the first time around. And yet, when you find Raven and then you find Schwann after the events in Baction, it's like you see exactly where Raven and Schwann's personality met in the middle to create a comfortable neutral ground-- when I RP'd him; it was Schwann or Raven, it was never a mix of the two of them, it is also the leading reason why I have an icon of the both of them in the same icon because my mind wanted to automatically seperate them. Between the lie that is Raven and the lie that is Schwann, in the middle is the truth.
2.) Yuri/Raven - I have actually managed to get through most of the game without SHIPPING them, it doesn't even occur to me. Like, it's almost natural not to and it feels really good to do so, I thought it was going to be hard to do so but it's just amazingly simple. Yuri/Flynn however-- it was a pairing that my ex girlfriend only liked as 'ex' but I can still see that there is tons of tension, maybe they had to split when they went their seperate ways, but no doubt they still mean a whole lot to each other-- they have that kinship and it's like "I will give you a hard time, but if anyone else does-- there'll be hell to pay" which goes for both of them.
3.) I forgot entirely about Karol proving himself in the Blades of Zophair, like-- that was just such a brilliant piece of character development and allowed me to go "Wow, he really has come a long way!". I don't like Karol tbh, but I can still respect that he's definitely earned the title of Boss of Brave Vesperia.
4.) I thought i was going to utterly hate Yuri because I associated him so completely with my ex girlfriend, but I-- don't? I was prepared to ship Raven and Flynn with anyone but Yuri and like say "YURI CAN GO AND BE ALONE BY HIMSELF.." but no, that just doesn't work for me because Yuri IS an amazing character, all 11 year baggage aside and somehow in the playing I've managed to disentangle him from that, it almost makes me want to find someone to RP Yuri (but I'm too lazy to search soooo-- it's all good, old lady Nia ain't as energetic as she used to be)
5.) I seriously wouldn't even know who to ship Raven/Schwann with, I can see Duke, I can also see Alexei-- and both of them would be exceedingly fucked up as far as pairings go.
More Vesperia icons will be coming, probably later over athiraethe, I've already been screencapping the hell out of the game as it is.

12/2/19 23:34 (UTC)just how far are you now? :o i just got to the part where we have to kill belius and then get back to the don and i'm in loooove with judith. is it ok if i ask why you don't like karol? i thought i was gonna hate him but he's kinda useful aside from being cowardly (like knowing so much geography/world stuff). the character i'm not a big fan of right now is actually raven (just because i haven't seen much), and sometimes patty.
the duke icon you're using looks gorgeous btw! :O

13/2/19 00:59 (UTC)as for characters, I RP'd Flynn, Raven and Estelle, Raven was the major person that I RP'd though-- when my ex girlfriend expressed her interest in Yuri/Raven, I made myself learn absolutely everything I could about him... of course from a character standpoint, I've always liked his type in pretty much any Tales game-- or at least the characters that fufill his role type. (edit: I also did RP Duke in a wierd crossover with Richter from Tales of Symphonia II)
