I tried posting this maybe a month ago however internet was wonky which is always fun but I'm going to try this again.
If you've ever seen Bob Ross, you are familar with the phrase "Happy Accidents"-- well this icon is one massive succession of happy accidents. I took it from a FFXII-2 official art of the game where the entire group is up there sort of facing off;; and then I just tried a sucession of textures that I thought were going to be crap but them magically they seemed to work. (As an iconist, a damn picky one-- it's like playing jenga, wondering when the entire thing is going to tumble down as I go into an icon with only a vague idea and usually a song). At the time I made this, lens flare textures were popular, but they were right smack dab in the middle lens flare.
But I managed to find one that was off to the side (which is my preferred crop of choice), so bingo-- then it was a simple cloud texture and a red blob that is strangely not ON THE SUBJECT *very rare for me*. And voila, one of my favorite icons was born.
Now Yuel, why Yuel. I am a sucker for the dead then alive again trope-- it's one of the classic mythos that many world religions share. Be it Jesus, Osiris or Dionysis. The coming back to life time and time again, though unlike Xenogears where there is the basic theme of reincarnation, and Fei and Elly only remember due to dreams and flashbacks, Yeul knows EVERYTHING due to her status as an oracle-- so you can imagine some of the things she's seen, and so she was almost a natural choice for me to love her. As far as pairing her with anyone, I can make arguments for her with Noel as well as pairing her with Caius-- But I tend to lean more toward Caius-- because after a point, they are both in the battle together having messed up time for EVERYBODY. (protip: Nia loves games where time is messed up for everyone, truth)
