I watched... two or three episodes of Blue Exorcist when it first ran, I think. It had a lot of promise and was fun but it wasn't quuuuite different enough from most shounen for me to keep it as a series--it reminded me a lot of Soul Eater--so I dropped it.
...I had also started Utena at the time, so POOR THING DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE, basically. And ah yeah, I double-checked the date and so much good stuff had come out then. I had like three other series on top of Utena. 2011 was a good year for new anime.
A lot of my friends who kept up with it love it, though. By comparison, I just watch a lot of seinen and josei (like an old person, ahem). I tried watching some of the mecha and shounen out this current season, but ended up dropping almost everything except a sci-fi called Gargantia and a series called Red Data Girl because it's written by a novelist that I LOVE. Apparently Gargantia is directed by the guy who handled Madoka, though, so I'm not sure what to expect.
BUT ANYWAY BACK TO THE POINT I WAS GOING TO MAKE. I definitely have to do half-hour chunks now, too, which is why it's actually easier for me to just watch the current 'seasons' of stuff. It's hard to get back-logged and I'm only watching a half-hour to an hour a week, tops. I kind of wish I still had my undergraduate schedule, though--it was the best for anime and games. By the time finals rolled out there was nothing else to do so friends and I would either hang out at their place for hours or I'd be in my room marathoning because I was just waiting to go home. It was awesome.
Have fun eating cupcakes! Oh, and tell me what flavors they were. I haven't had one in a while and was thinking of baking during the summer.
EDIT II: Were you the one who's seen Rose of Versailles? I got an ad for it from Rightstuf and am tempted to pre-order, but haven't seen it yet. I'm going to look for episodes, too, but I kind of wanted to hear from someone who's already watched the whole series.
